Transit Insurance & Protection Policy
Transit protection should be understood before pickup, not after a problem occurs. This page explains the general approach to declared value, insurance facilitation, condition records and claims. Actual coverage exists only when it is confirmed in the applicable written booking documents or insurance certificate.
1. Insurance is booking-specific
Website references to insured transit or transit protection are general service information and should not be treated as an automatic insurance certificate. The type of protection, insured value, premium, deductible, exclusions, insurer and claim procedure must be confirmed for the specific consignment. Where a third-party insurer issues a policy, that insurer’s policy wording and applicable law govern the insurance contract.
2. Declared value
Customers should provide a reasonable declared value for goods when transit insurance or value-based protection is requested. Under-declaring value can affect a claim, while unsupported or unrealistic values may require additional evidence. High-value individual items such as artwork, antiques, premium electronics or specialized equipment should be identified separately before the quotation is finalized.
3. Household goods
Household moves may include furniture, appliances, cartons, clothing and fragile items with different risk profiles. The packing method, inventory description and condition documentation can affect claim assessment. Items with pre-existing damage should be noted before packing, and fragile or unusually valuable items should be disclosed so that the packing and protection plan can be adjusted.
4. Vehicle transport
For cars, motorcycles and other vehicles, a condition report with clear photographs is strongly recommended before loading and at delivery. Keys, fuel level, visible body condition, accessories and any pre-existing marks should be recorded. Personal belongings left inside a vehicle may be excluded from transport or insurance coverage unless expressly accepted in writing.
5. Common exclusions and limitations
Policies often exclude or limit losses related to inadequate customer packing, undeclared valuables, prohibited goods, ordinary wear, inherent vice, mechanical or electrical malfunction without external transit damage, cash or negotiable instruments, consequential loss, delay, and events specifically excluded by the insurer. The actual exclusions depend on the written policy issued for the booking; this list is only general guidance.
6. Packing and reasonable care
Insurance does not replace careful packing and handling. Appropriate cartons, cushioning, wrapping, crating, tie-downs and vehicle selection reduce the likelihood of loss and make condition assessment clearer. Customers who choose to pack their own goods should ask how self-packed cartons are treated under the selected protection arrangement.
7. What to do at delivery
Inspect the consignment as reasonably possible during handover. If there is visible damage, note it on the delivery record and take clear photographs before items are moved, repaired or discarded. For a missing package, record the inventory or carton reference. Prompt documentation can be important because insurance policies may contain notification deadlines.
8. Claim documentation
A claim may require the booking reference, insurance certificate or policy number, inventory, declared value, invoice or ownership evidence, pickup and delivery condition photographs, damage photographs, delivery remarks, repair estimates, survey reports and a written description of the incident. Additional documents may be requested depending on the insurer and type of loss.
9. Claim assessment
Submitting a claim does not automatically mean that the full declared amount will be paid. The insurer or responsible party may examine cause of loss, policy terms, depreciation where applicable, salvage, deductibles, declared value and supporting evidence. We can assist with operational records in our possession when reasonably required for a legitimate claim.
10. International shipments
International moves can be subject to marine or air-cargo insurance terms, customs inspection, port handling and destination-agent procedures. Customers should confirm territorial limits, warehouse-to-warehouse scope, storage extensions and the treatment of customs examination before dispatch. International policy terms may differ materially from domestic road-transit arrangements.
11. No insurance advice
Information on this page is operational guidance and not financial, legal or insurance advice. Customers should read the actual policy wording and ask the insurer or authorized intermediary about unclear coverage terms before relying on them.
12. Requesting protection details
Before booking, ask for the applicable transit-protection option, premium or charge, declared-value basis, insurer details where relevant, key exclusions and claim contact. You can write to info@gatimoversandpackers.com or call +91 9709700730 / +91 08222019003.
